Our local association is very active, and has a waiting list of prospective members.

These are not commercial fisheries but visitors are very welcome and permits are offered on two attractive hill lochs regulated by the association.

Approximately 40 acres in extent, this small loch is situated in the hills between Laurieston and Gatehouse of Fleet. Easy level access by approximately ¼ mile path from signed car park. The loch carries a head of small wild brown trout and is regularly stocked with hard fighting rainbows.

  • Season: 15th March to 31st October inclusive.
  • Sunday fishing is allowed.
  • Method of fishing: fly only.

A much larger loch set amid the hills some 3½ miles north east from Gatehouse of Fleet. Loch Whinyeon is approximately 120 acres and is a brown trout only water which carries a stock of small to medium sized wild fish, supplemented by a sensible stocking policy. Access is gained via a gradual climb of approximately 1 mile from the public roadway between Gatehouse of Fleet and Laurieston. Closer vehicle access is also possible through forest roads, and a key and pass are available when obtaining a permit.

  • Season: 15th March to 6th October inclusive.
  • Sunday fishing is allowed.
  • Method of fishing: fly only.

Boats. 
A small number of boats are kept at both lochs, and may be available on a first come - first served basis. Enquiry should be made at time of obtaining a permit. No anchors are allowed, but drogues are permitted. Bank fishing is permitted at both lochs.

Permits.
Numbers of day permits are limited. Application should be made at Thomson's Newsagents, 23 St Cuthbert Street, Kirkcudbright (Tel 01557 330423), or at the Spar Shop, High Street, Gatehouse of Fleet (Tel 01557 815050).
