Kirkcudbright Forum

Six miles off the A75, the old administrative county town for the Stewartry of Kirkcudbright, Kirkcudbright has a long and distinguished history, and its charms have attracted artists for well over a century. Several of the 'Glasgow Boys' worked and lived in the town. The most famous, E A Hornel, had his home and studio on the High St at Broughton House, now a National Trust for Scotland property. In the following years many artists followed his example. Jessie M King, E A Taylor, William Robson and many others made the town well known as an artists' colony.

For many years the town has welcomed visitors to its shops and galleries, historical buildings and pretty streets and harbour. You'll find that Kirkcudbright now has a growing number of contemporary artists and several high quality galleries. The shops are nearly all unique and independent selling everything from fresh bread to fishing tackle, bicycle spares to hand-made jewelley.

Kirkcudbright Forum was established in 1999 after a series of town meetings. The Forum is a voluntary group, which seeks to improve the economic, social, physical and cultural development of Kirkcudbright for the benefit of its local community.

As part of the work of the Forum we developed Kirkcudbright Artists’ Town, and branding for the town, which reflects its long history of attracting artists. The logo that represents Kirkcudbright Artists' Town has been developed over the last few years and is now to be found in most shops, publications and websites about the town.

If you have a business or would like to be part of Kirkcudbright Artists' Town and would like to be able to use the logo, please contact us via this website.
