IN A PICTURESQUE SETTING by Kirkcudbright's busy fishing harbour, and in the shadow of MacLellan's Castle, the Harbour Cottage Gallery was converted in 1957 from an eighteenth-century fisherman's cottage scheduled for demolition into the beautiful little gallery we have today. The initiative was inspired by the town's artists and businessmen who saw the need to save an important part of our local heritage, linked with the opportunity to create a permanent exhibition space to show the work of local artists.

The gallery, which is on two floors, is managed by trustees and volunteers, and continues to fulfill its original role. It offers a busy exhibition programme throughout the year, featuring not only the works of our wealth of local artists and craft-workers, but also increasingly artists from slightly further afield.

As well as giving an excellent opportunity to allow everyone to view original local art and craftwork not being exhibited elsewhere, the majority of items are displayed for sale, are competitively priced, and in many instances can be removed immediately they are bought. Truly a working gallery offering ready access to unique gifts. Indeed, why not come along and TREAT YOURSELF to something special!
