Details: Broughton House in Kirkcudbright is one of the National Trust for Scotland's most charming venues. The former home of the artist E A Hornell (one of the 'Glasgow Boys') overlooks the River Dee in the heart of Kirkcudbright. The 18th century pink limed building, with its mahogany panelled gallery and Hornell's studio both displaying many of Hornell's paintings, houses a wonderful collection of art, ceramics and furniture. To the rear of the building is the fascinating secret garden designed by Hornell and inspired by his visit to Japan.
